Building Schools for the Future (BSF) is the biggest single government investment in improving school buildings for over 50 years. The aim is to rebuild or renew every secondary school in England over a 10-15 year period. BSF, worth £2.2 billion in its first year (2005-6), aims to ensure that secondary pupils learn in 21st century facilities. Investment will be rolled out to every part of England over 15 waves, subject to future public spending decisions.
This workshop will explore the principles of BSF and inclusive design, with case studies from recent work, and also a more detailed review of access, inclusion and special school design. The workshop will be led by two architects whith extensive experience of designing BSF schemes, David Aplin, Miller Hughes Associates and Guy Shackle, Barron and Smith Architects.
