Access to the Arts Workshop

1 December, 10.00-12.00, cost £40 with a 25 per cent discount for voluntary organisations, the Access Lab, London

There has been a significant improvement in access to arts and heritage premises in the UK over the last 15 years. However, many older buildings, even when renovated, do not create effective access to all people. Arts and heritage premises are particularly relevant to inclusive design because they are buildings that large numbers of people with diverse abilities visit, premises that many people visit only once and many of them are in historic buildings. In addition, the arts are for most people a visual and aesthetic experience that should be enhanced in every way.

This workshop will explore the various issues relating to access to the arts. Leading the workshop will be access consultant and architect Adrian Cave, author of the forthcoming book Making Existing Buildings Accessible – Museums and Art Galleries, Tony Crosby from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Toby Davies, from Audio Description charity Vocaleyes.
