Design guidance

Here you can find design guidance relating to common inclusive design building issues. All design guidance is taken from CAE's best-selling publication Designing for Accessibility, now jointly published with RIBA Publishing.

The guidance contained in Designing for Accessibility is based primarily on the 2004 edition of the Approved Document M: Access to and use of buildings 2004 edition, with additional material from the British Standard BS 8300:2001 (Incorporating Amendment No. 1) Design of buildings and their approaches to meet the need of disabled people – Code of practice.
