About the Centre for Accessible Environments
A registered charity, CAE has been the leading authority and resource in the UK, for over 30 years, on inclusive design and access to the built environment for disabled and older people.
What we do
As an information provider and resource, our services and activities include:
- free information by telephone, fax, letter, email and face to face
- access consultancy, including access audits, design appraisals, access statements and strategic advice
- scheduled and bespoke, in-house training courses
- publications, including design guides, specifiers' handbooks and CD ROMs
- Access by Design, the quarterly journal
- a network of 800 members and subscribers
- European projects and research supported by the European Commission
- House Adaptations Advisory Service (HAAS)
- advice to the London voluntary and community sectors seeking to improve the accessibility and sustainability of their premises (funded by the City Bridge Trust)
- joint ventures with partners such as RIBA Enterprises
- administrative base for the National Register of Access Consultants (NRAC)
